We have started a group for bereaved young people aged 10 and over in the Buchan area, which will run along the same lines as our current teen group, with their own event days.
Two of our volunteers – Val Oddie and Lisa Summers – are leading on this project for us and they have already had their first get together – ten-pin bowling and lunch in Fraserburgh.
This group is part of our long-term strategy to become more community-focused and more easily accessible to all our service users.
Children in the group have all experienced a close bereavement, and a referral to GCBN will allow them to join the group, which will meet around four times a year. All meetings are free to attend.
The next activity will be trampolining, this was chosen by the young people themselves who we want to encourage to share their views on what they’d like to do. They can share their experiences with others if they wish to do so and know that others attending have similar experiences. First and foremost, the group is to support children and have fun!
We received funding from The Aberdeen Asset Management Charitable Foundation and the Co-op to help establish this group and we are extremely grateful.
