Joining The ARCHIE Foundation

In February this year, GCBN became part of The ARCHIE Foundation family, securing the long-term future of the service, as well as allowing us to develop and reach even more children and families.

Funding for our part-time co-ordinator’s post has been provided by The ARCHIE Foundation for the last eight years, as part of its commitment to support child health services across the north of Scotland, so it made sense to make use of their resources in finance, communication and fundraising.

We have moved from its base at Alford Place to ARCHIE’s offices at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

Our chairperson Anne Bone said: ‘As one of the founders, I am very proud that we have been able to offer so many children and their families support and assist them on their grief journey. We have also reached out to help professionals build their skills and confidence, so that bereaved children will receive better support and be enabled to manage their grief to rebuild their lives.

‘We have been extremely grateful to the ARCHIE Foundation, who have funded our co-ordinator’s post for eight years. During discussions with ARCHIE about continuing that funding, we were given the option of becoming part of the charity, and the trustees of GCBN decided this was a good fit and would be a positive move.

‘As far as our services are concerned there will be no changes, we will still provide the full range of our direct services, across the Grampian region.’

David Wood, Chief Executive of The ARCHIE Foundation, said: ‘We are delighted that GCBN is now part of the ARCHIE family. The organisation is run by a very dedicated and skilled team of responders. They provide an important and much-needed service that helps children and families at some of the most difficult points in their lives, and that very much ties in with The ARCHIE Foundation’s aim to alleviate suffering and distress for children.

‘All the money donated and raised for GCBN will still go directly to the service. We will simply provide support at our head office that will allow the service to be more efficient and effective, and help to develop the service to help reach even more children and families.’
